Religious Education and Services The non Catholic student is welcome at St. Cecilia School. This student is expected to understand and agree that the school exists to educate in the framework of Catholic values. Non Catholic students participate in Religious Class and Liturgical Services scheduled for students during school. Religion is a major curriculum subject. Archdiocese Testing Program Each Spring students will take the standardized testing decided by the Archdiocese School Office. Progress Reports Notices concerning the student's progress will be sent to parents of students in grade 1-8 midway through marking periods. Report Cards Report Cards are issued four times a year in Grades 1-8. K receives a progress report in first marking period. Report cards are issued two times a year. Home Study Teachers assign appropriate home study to reinforce and supplement the lessons presented in class. Parent's interest in a child's homework is essential. It is the parent's responsibility to provide ample time and opportunity for the completion of assignments. The following suggestion may be helpful: Set a definite time for home study each day. Help a child realize that homework is his/her responsibility and that work must be done with neatness and accuracy. Be interested in each child's work. Encourage greater progress, show enthusiasm for accomplishments and give steady assistance towards overcoming difficulties. If your child never has homework, check with the
teacher.
Honor Roll - Grades 4-8 First Honors A's in all subjects Effort and Conduct - all O's, G's, S's Second Honors A's and B's in all subjects Effort and Conduct - all O's, G's, S's Honorable Mention A's, B's and C's in all subjects Effort and Conduct - all O's, G's, S's Any student receiving a behavior deficiency code will not be eligible for the Honor Roll. Graduation Eighth Grade students passing all major subjects receive a diploma during a Graduation Ceremony. Retention In Grades 1-3 a failure in one major subjects (Religion, Reading, or Math) requires home tutoring or summer school over the summer if the student is to be admitted to the next grade. Final exams must be taken and passed prior to being admitted to the next grade. Failure in two major subjects means the student will not be promoted to the next grade. In Grades 4-8 a failure in one or two major subjects (Religion, Reading, Math, English, Science or Social Studies) requires home tutoring or summer school over the summer if the student is to be admitted to the next grade. Final exams must be taken and passed prior to being admitted to the next grade the following September. The school must be notified prior to August 15 to reschedule exams. If a student in grades 4-8 receives a failure in three or more major subjects, he/she will not be promoted to the next grade. No student will receive a diploma at Graduation unless he/she passes all major subjects. In the case of failure in one or two major subjects, he/she will receive a diploma only after successfully completing these subjects in summer school. No student will be allowed to repeat the 8th grade at St. Cecilia School. Student Council The Student Council at St. Cecilia School is made up of a group of 4th-8th Grade students who assist the principal and faculty in maintaining order, executing the rules of the school, and by being helpful to other students, faculty and parents. Students eligible are those who are responsible, respectful of faculty and students, and obey school rules. These students must be passing in all major subjects, show effort in them, and have good conduct and attendance records. Upon any infraction of school rules and/or failure to conduct oneself as required by Student Council guidelines, members will receive an official warning. If a problem persists, the members will be suspended or removed from the Student Council. Book Bags/Cover In order to keep the books in good condition all children must have a durable book bag of some type. All textbooks and workbooks are to be covered. Book covers should be replaced as needed.
